ROB ZOMBIE To Document Making Of 'Halloween' Remake
January 3, 2007Rob Zombie has issued the following update on his upcoming remake of the 1978 horror classic "Halloween":
"Many of you have been asking if I plan on making a 'making of Halloween' documentary similar to the '30 days in Hell' one on 'The Devil's Rejects' DVD. Well, the answer is yes. We started shooting on the first day of pre-production and we will continue up until we are finished."
On the subject of the movie's serial killer Michael Myers, Zombie said, "I've just seen [special effects artist] Wayne Toth's finished mask for Michael and all I can say is 'HOLY FUCK.' It looks perfect. Exactly like the original. Not since 1978 has the shape looked so good. Wayne worked this sucker to death and boy did it pay off."
Rob Zombie recently made several casting announcements for "Halloween" at his MySpace page. Zombie revealed that veteran actor Malcolm McDowell, best known as the star of "A Clockwork Orange", will play the role of Dr. Loomis, the psychiatrist tracking serial killer Michael Myers. As for Myers himself, the masked murderer will be portrayed as an adult by Tyler Mane, who appeared as Sabretooth in the first "X-Men" movie and Rufus in Zombie's 2005 horror feature, "The Devil's Rejects". Meanwhile, actress Danielle Harris, who played Myers' niece in "Halloween 4" and "5", is rumored to be playing Laurie Strode, the babysitter portrayed by Jamie Lee Curtis in the original.
Zombie told Launch last year that keeping crucial characters and elements from the original "Halloween" important to him. "There's certain things that I feel that are what makes updates or remakes or whatever cool, and it's just seeing the familiar things, but in a way that you've never seen them before," he said. "By taking the key elements, which I think are, you know, Michael, Laurie, you know, Loomis, key score elements, you take a few key elements and you just sort of re-present them in a fresh way, and I think that's what makes it exciting."
Zombie said at his MySpace page about the casting of McDowell, "As many of you know, 'A Clockwork Orange' is my favorite film and I am a huge, huge fan of Malcolm. I know Malcolm will kick ass as Dr. Loomis. He is thrilled to be part of 'Halloween' and is ready to make a new classic."
As for Mane, Zombie wrote, "Tyler is mean, lean and ready to bring you the most psychotic Michael Myers yet."
Dr. Loomis was played by late British actor Donald Pleasance in the original "Halloween" and several of its sequels.
"Halloween", due out August 31, 2007, will be Zombie's third feature as a director, following "The Devil's Rejects" and 2003's "House of 1000 Corpses".
